Art
Intent:
Paulton Junior School aims to provide all children with a coherent, well-structured and enjoyable education in the Arts, which inspires awe and wonder, a sense of achievement and fosters a curiosity and a voice to comment on their experiences of the world around them. The potential for self-expression and sense of personal achievement in the Arts should be open and obtainable to all children.
Implementation:
The Scheme of Work ensures that children develop knowledge, skills and a sense of enquiry through Drama, Visual Arts, Music and Dance through progression of skills as they journey through Key Stage 2. All children will have the opportunity to consolidate and develop skills and techniques learnt, which can be used to express their ideas visually. It is intended that the Scheme of Work allows each year group to experience the same range of techniques with progressing skill and that every child will be encouraged to select materials and methods of working to suit their desired outcome and communicate their ideas.
Throughout their time at Paulton Junior School, all children will develop an Art based vocabulary. Learning specific language to support them as they are encouraged to comment on their own work, that of their peers and other artists, whilst also looking at specific artworks. Through this process of providing them with the knowledge of artists’ work it is intended to act as a scaffold and as a reference for discussion relating to their work.
Impact:
All children at Paulton Junior School feel as though they can succeed in the Art curriculum and can identify ways that the Arts represent the individual and collective experiences of people and their encounters of the world around them. Children begin to see how the Arts can enhance and represent their life experiences and form an opportunity for self-expression and understanding.
